Quick Help

For people who are familiar with software and hardware installation:

  1. On Windows PC, download and install TellyServer.
  2. Start TellyServer and enter setup screen.
  3. Choose an ATSC tuner device and start channel scan. Save when done.
  4. On iPhone/iPad, get InstaTV from AppStore.
  5. In Setting tab, add the TellyServer by IP address or by computer name.
  6. Touch the added server to connect and retrieve channel list.
  7. Go to Channel tab and select a channel to start watching live TV.

Detailed Help

This is a very detailed step-by-step help.

  • Step 1: Check hardware/software...
    1. Make sure the tuner is a Windows compatible ATSC Tuner and make sure it is usable with at least one TV watching application, for example, Windows Media Center. This is to verify the tuner hardware and signal source (antenna/cable) is in working order.
    2. Make sure the CPU has at least a score of 1000. (Details)
  • Step 2: On Windows PC...
    1. download and install TellyServer software. The installer will add rules to Windows Firewall to allow incoming connection to TellyServer.
    2. Start TellyServer, and because there is no channel yet, it will show a dialog asking you if you want to do a channel scan. Click Yes to show setup dialog.

    3. Choose an ATSC tuner. A single ATSC tuner device may support both antenna(OTA) and cable (QAM) signal source. It maybe be listed as as two separate tuners. The name of the device usually implies which type of signal source (Antenna or Cable) is required. But sometimes all listed names are identical.

    4. Next, make sure antenna or cable is connected properly to tuner, then choose the signal source for the scan. For Cable, there are some more options can be selected. If unsure, use the default setting(QAM265-Standard). Click Scan to start scanning. This process takes about 20 to 30 minutes because TellyServer need to examine all available channels. When a channel is found, it will appear in the available channel list. After scan is completed, click Save to save the result and return. Ignore no name channel should be checked normally when use with Antenna and ClearQAM Cable. No name channels usually are encrypted channels that must be used with a CableCard tuner, such as HDHomeRun Prime.

    5. Note the Computer Name or Local IP in the main status dialog. You need this information to connect to TellyServer on iPhone/iPad. When you are away from home, Public IP should be used and a technique called Port Forwarding needs to be setup properly(Details).

  • Step 3: Now on iPhone/iPad...
    1. Download InstaTV or InstaTV Lite from AppStore.
    2. Start InstaTV, go to Setting tab and choose Add a TellyServer to enter the TellyServer information. If you are home, enter the Local IP or Computer Name . If you are away from home, use the Public IP.
    3. Touch the server you just entered and Channel tab should indicate number of channels available.
    4. Go to Channels tab, choose any channel and enjoy the HDTV program!
